Writing docs, building spreadsheets, booking meetings—AI assistants are everywhere these days. But real work rarely ends with a single generated draft. That's exactly what WorkSwarm is exploring. It's a multi-agent system from openJiuwen, built by Huawei's 2012 Lab, Huawei Cloud, devices, and computing groups. Seven Agents Walk Into a Recording Studio

To see what that actually means, check out one of their demos. A user types a simple request: a song with a coastal typhoon theme, cinematic and narrative. WorkSwarm spins up a seven-member music team—a team lead, lyricist, composer, arranger, lead vocalist, accompanist, and interlude specialist. Each has a clear role. The lyricist writes lyrics and vocal directions. The composer sets melody and structure. The arranger handles instrumentation. The lead vocalist focuses on diction, breath, and emotion. The interlude specialist checks transitions. The accompanist adds harmony and dynamic suggestions.

The team locks the style as Epic Cinematic Dark Pop, plans sections—Intro, Verse, Chorus, Bridge—and generates a first demo. Then the real fun begins. The vocalist feels the emotion could push harder in places. The interlude specialist reviews each transition. The accompanist offers a completeness assessment. They debate the bridge, the chorus build, the interlude length, the climax. Revisions flow back into the creation loop, and the version ticks from music-2.0 to music-2.6. Every change, and why, is logged in the project.

Final delivery includes 12 files: MP3, lyrics, composition plan, arrangement summary, vocal instructions, accompaniment suggestions, interlude review, version history, delivery summary, and a style prompt. That's a full package you can reuse for the next track.

A Word Doc, Two AI Poets, and a Human on a Phone

The second demo feels more like a playful experiment. Three members—two AI writers and one human—take turns continuing the classic essay Yueyang Tower (岳阳楼记). Each writes one sentence per turn and signs it.

They share a single Word document on a desktop. When it's an AI's turn, it reads the existing content, finds the right spot, writes a new sentence, and signs as "AI Poet 1" or "AI Poet 2." Then it saves, closes, and reopens Word—just like a human would—and pings the next member in the group chat.

The human joins from a phone via an invite. When it's their turn, they receive the current text and their task. They write lines like "Holding distant mountains, swallowing the Yangtze" and sign "Human Player," then pass the baton back. The Word doc on the desktop updates instantly, and the chat logs the handoff.

Those tiny actions—saving, reopening, notifying—are the unglamorous stuff of real collaboration. Agents aren't just generating text; they're operating in actual tools and files. The human has a real seat in the team, can see progress, jump in, or correct course.

From Solo Assistants to Coordinated Squads

WorkSwarm calls its approach Coordination Engineering. The idea is simple: break a big task into pieces, assign each to a specialized agent, and let outputs flow naturally from one step to the next. You can watch the chat for discussions, check the task board for progress, and find files in the project area. If something's off, you add a note and redirect.

For lightweight tasks—quick lookups, text tweaks—you can use a single agent. For bigger jobs that need multiple roles and rounds of delivery, the swarm kicks in. Everything lives in one workspace: member discussions, task status, execution logs, and project files.

Another sweet spot is batch content production. In swarm mode, you input a topic, audience, and style. The system assembles a team that researches, structures, writes, and integrates in parallel. Tasks that used to move step by step now run on parallel tracks. The demo claims a 200-page high-quality PPT delivered in 20 minutes.

Programming gets the same treatment. Want to recreate a classic arcade tank game that's nowhere to be found? Spin up a dev team—frontend and backend work on separate branches, merge to main, testers check the build, a lead coordinates. Midway through, you get a new idea? Tag a member and add a requirement. In another demo, a user describes a calorie-tracking tool in one sentence. The system plans the tasks, writes ArkTS code, compiles it, and produces an installable app for HarmonyOS PC.
